Experiencing Office Web Apps in SkyDrive

Microsoft Office Web Apps are online companions to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, enabling people to access and do light editing or sharing of Office documents from virtually anywhere. Office Web Apps is available to consumers and businesses through:
  1. SkyDrive in Windows Live: For consumers and small business users, Office Web Apps is available on Windows Live as a free service through SkyDrive offering
  2. On-premises using SharePoint 2010: Business customers licensed for Microsoft Office 2010 through a Volume Licensing program can run Office Web Apps on a server running Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 or Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010.

To understand the user experience and features in both cases, you can refer to Using Office Web Apps in Windows Live and Using Office Web Apps in SharePoint pages in the Office 2010 product information and support website.

Microsoft Office Web Apps Deployment Resource Center
Microsoft Office Web Apps Deployment resource center has been launched recently which provides tools and resources for IT professionals planning to deploy Office Web Apps in a SharePoint environment.

The Understanding Office Web Apps and Introduction to working with Office Web Apps provide a good technical background before you start the Office Web Apps deployment in an enterprise. Refer to the Deploy Office Web Apps (Installed on SharePoint 2010 Products) article to learn to deploy Microsoft Office Web Apps.

Known issues when you install Office 2010 SP1 and SharePoint 2010 SP1

Found this KB should be easily available for all my users .

This article lists the known issues and behavior changes that you may experience when you install Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010, and Office server products.

Resolution:

The following are issues that you may experience when you install these service packs:
  • SharePoint Server 2010 SP1 has an issue that causes workflow tasks to become locked and unrecoverable, as follows. Assume that you have a running out-of-box (OOB) workflow task (for example, an "Approval – SharePoint 2010," "Collect Feedback – SharePoint 2010," or "Publishing Approval" task). When a task assignee edits the workflow task (for example, by approving or rejecting the trial), the task is locked and cannot be recovered. For more information about this issue, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
2737435 "In Progress" Workflow tasks are locked after updating to SharePoint 2010 SP1

To resolve this issue, install the hotfixes that are provided in the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
2687614 Description of the SharePoint Server 2010 hotfix package (Coreservermui-xx-xx.msp): October 30, 2012
2687557 Description of the SharePoint Foundation 2010 hotfix package (Wss-x-none.msp): October 30, 2012
Note You must install these hotfixes after you install SharePoint 2010 SP1.
  • Before you install the SP1 packages, make sure that you have sufficient disk space. For caching, the packages may require up to four times their file size in remaining disk space during installation.
  • You must restart the computer at the end of the installation process.
  • If Office Web Apps will be used in a mixed version environment, where Office Web Apps has SP1-or-later applied while SharePoint Server 2010 remains on the RTM version, you must install the following two updates before you install SP1 for Office Web Apps:
    • 2510639 Description of the SharePoint Server 2010 update: April 12, 2011
    • 2510648 Description of the Office Web Apps update: April 12, 2011
  • Install the service packs in the following order on every server in the farm:
    1. Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Foundation 2010
    2. Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Foundation 2010 Language Pack (if applicable)
    3. Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Server 2010
    4. Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Server 2010 Language Pack (if applicable)
  • After you install Service Pack 1 you must run the SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard or the psconfig –cmd upgrade –inplace b2b -wait command one time on every server in the farm. This step updates the farm to the latest version and is required in order to have full SharePoint functionality. If you do not run the wizard, the farm will run with reduced capacity. For example, Search will not be able to index content.
  • You must restart the User Profile Synchronization service after installing Service Pack 1. For more information about how to start the service, see the "Start the User Profile Synchronization service" section of the following Microsoft website:
  • After SharePoint Server 2010 SP1 is installed, the Workflow feature is disabled when a new site collection is created. To use the Workflow feature in a new site collection, enable it in the Site Collection Settings page.
  • After you install SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP1 and SharePoint Server 2010 SP1, we strongly recommend that you install the install the June 2011 Cumulative Update refresh package. The June Cumulative Update includes several important security and bug fixes that are not included Service Pack 1. For more information about these updates, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
2536601 Description of the SharePoint Foundation 2010 cumulative update package (SharePoint Foundation server-package): June 30, 2011

2536599 Description of the SharePoint Server 2010 cumulative update package (SharePoint server-package): June 30, 2011
    Applies to
    • Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010
    • Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010
    • Microsoft Office Professional 2010

Office File Validation detected a problem while trying to open this file. Opening it may be dangerous

When you open Microsoft Office 97-2003 binary file (such as .doc) the file is compared to a binary schema. If the file fails this validation, you are notified that the document could be considered to be compromised. In Office 2003 and in the 2007 Office system, you are prompted about the file status and can decide to cancel opening the file or to continue to open the file.

This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document

Problem Description:
Consider the Following situation:

You create a file or have a file that has the maximum allowed characters in the filename of that file on a Microsoft Windows 7 computer.

Note: This size limitation incudes the path to the file as well as the filename.

When you try and open the file with Microsoft Word 2003, 2007 or 2010 you get the error "This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document"

Probable cause:
The filename and path is too large. The maximum filename and path size is 255 characters.

Resolution:
To work around this issue the filename will have to modify to a shorter length. This issue occurs because of a 255-character limitation on creating and saving files in the Office products. Also, you receive an error message when you save or open a file if the path of the file meets the following condition for the appropriate program.

This will be applicable for word2003, word2007 as well as word2010.

If you have any queries/questions regarding the above mentioned information then please let me know.

I would be more than happy to help you as well as resolves your issues, Thank you J

Problem Description:
When you try to start a Microsoft Office 2010 application, you receive the following message:
Your beta software has expired. Use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to remove the beta software from your computer.

Probable cause:
This issue occurs because the beta version of the Office 2010 application that you are using has expired. The beta 1 and beta 2 versions of the Office 2010 applications expire on the following dates:

This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator

Problem Description:
When installing Excel Viewer 2007, about half through he gets the error "your system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" - The verbose log shows: This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator.

When we were running Excel Viewer 2007, about half through he gets the error
"Your system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation".

The verbose log shows:

This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system
administrator.
C:\Program Files\MSECache\xlview_en-us\xlview.msi
MSI (c) (10:E0) [17:37:07:981]: Product: Microsoft Office Excel Viewer - Update
'Microsoft Office Excel Viewer 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1)' could not be installed.
Error code 1625. Additional information is available in the log file
C:\DOCUME~1\p112279p\Local Settings\Temp\MSId301e.LOG.

Steps taken to resolve this issue-

There may be an invalid past reference in the registry to Excel viewer here:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\00002159F30090400000000000F01FEC]
"ProductName"="Microsoft Office Excel Viewer 2007"

Points of interest -
1. The product name for the current version of the Excel viewer should be:
"Microsoft Office Excel Viewer"
2. There are no other values under
"HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\00002159F30090400000000000F01FEC". Only the
ProductName.

If we delete the key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\00002159F30090400000000000F01FEC, and reattempt the Excel Viewer 2007 install, it succeeds without the bogus Policy error.

If you have any queries/questions regarding the above mentioned information then please let me know. I would be more than happy to help you as well as resolves your issues, Thank you

Office Security Updates failing with error 0x80070663

Problem:
System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) will not restart the client computer automatically. It prevents pending important updates from being installed successfully on these computers.

What I did to resolve this issue:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Sms\Mobile Client\Reboot
Management\JobCounter

- set JobCounter to 0 (zero)

under very specific conditions; the persistent job counter is not decremented when a job is finished. The coordinating system prevents these client computers from being restarted because it believes that a job is still running based on the JobCounter value.

Root Cause:
- client incorrectly concludes that a job is running because JobCounter <> 0
- hotfix prevents problem from happening again
- hotfix does not correct the JobCounter value.

If you have any queries/questions regarding the above mentioned information then please let me know. I would be more than happy to help you as well as resolves your issues J Thank you

How to disable protected mode in office 2010 (protected view

Protected mode is a new security feature available in Microsoft Office 2010.It enhances protection against risky Outlook email attachments, files that came from the Internet, files that fail validation or files that are located in potentially unsafe locations.

“By default Office 2010 will open documents in protected mode that fail validation, have been downloaded from the internet, are located in potentially unsafe location and include attachments. Protected view opens the document in read-only mode thus minimizing the exposure to some potential security threat.

If you are an experienced user who is annoyed by the protected view, you can always disable it even though it is not recommended by Microsoft.

Please refer the following steps as how to disable the protected mode in Office 2010:

-Run one of the Microsoft Office 2010 applications (e.g. Word 2010/Excel 2010/PowerPoint 2010).

-Click on Office button, and select Options.

-In the “Options” dialog, select Trust Center in the left pane.

-Click on Trust Center Settings in the right pane.

-Select Protected View in the left pane of “Trust Center” dialog.

-Disable any of all of the protected mode options as below by clicking the check boxes:

-Click OK.

If you have any queries/questions regarding the above mentioned info then please let me know,Thanks..
