How to search SIP enabled user in Lync Control panel


Problem Description: Unable to search SIP enabled user in Lync Control panel.

Resolution:

NOTE: User account that is assigned to the CsUserAdministrator role or the CsAdministrator role, log on to any computer.

1.       Open a browser window, and then enter the Admin URL to open the Lync Server Control Panel. For details about the different methods you can use to start Lync Server Control Panel,
2.       In the left navigation bar, click Users.
3.       In the Search users box, type all or the first portion of the display name, first name, last name, SAM account name, SIP address, or line URI of the user account that you want to search for, and then click Find.

(Optional) Specify additional search criteria to narrow the results:
         i.            Click the expand arrow button in the upper-right corner of the screen above Search results, and then click Add Filter.
       ii.            Enter the user property by typing it or clicking the arrow in the drop-down list to select a user property.
      iii.            In the Equal to list, click Equal to or Not equal to.
     iv.            In the text box, type the search criteria you want to use to filter search results, and then click Find.
       v.            The search results appear under Search Results. You can select any or all of the users in the list and perform configuration tasks on the users you select.

Preventing Lync Server 2010 certificate expiration


Problem Description:
A Lync Server Certificate is about to expire in a few days:
·         An expired certificate will cause the Lync Server 2010 services to not start
·         An expired certificate may communication between Lync Server 2010 Server roles to fail
 
More details:
There are two way to locate information about the certificate that is associated with the Lync Server 2010 server

Method 1: Using Lync Server Deployment Wizard

Note You can also request a certificate from an internal CA, or assign an existing certificate from this wizard.
1.      Launch the Lync Server Deployment Wizard from the Windows Start menu on the Lync Server 2010 server
2.      Click on “Install or Update Lync Server System”
3.      Click run on Step 3: Request, Install or Assign Certificates
4.      Use the Certificate Wizard to view all the certificates that are installed for the Lync Server 2010 server

Method 2: Using Lync Management Shell

Use the PowerShell cmdlet Get-CsCertificate to locate information about the certificate associated with the Lync Server 2010 server

Note To view all properties on the certificate objects returned to see the SAN’s. Use with a "Get-CsCertificate | fl –property * cmdlet

Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool
Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool integrates a range of logging and tracing functionality. It facilitates troubleshooting by capturing logging and tracing information from the product while the product is running. Logging Tool is installed with the Lync Server administrative tools. You can use Logging Tool to run debug sessions on any Lync Server server role.

To start Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool
Do one of the following:
  • Open a command prompt (either Command Prompt, Windows PowerShell, or Lync Server Management Shell). Navigate to the folder where OCSLogger.exe is installed (by default, %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\Tracing), type OCSLogger.exe, and then pressEnter.
  • On the Start menu, open the Run dialog box. Type the full path and file name, by default %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\Tracing\OCSLogger.exe) and then click OK.
  • On the Start menu, click inside the Search box. Type OCSLogger.exe and then press Enter.

Lync Server 2010 System Requirements


As per Microsoft documentation, All servers running Microsoft Lync Server 2010 communications software must meet certain minimum system requirements. System requirements for Lync Server 2010 include the server hardware, the operating system to be installed on each server, and related software requirements, such as the Windows updates and other software that must be installed on the servers.

Note: Lync Server 2010 is available only in a 64-bit edition, which requires 64-bit hardware and a 64-bit edition of Windows Server. A 32-bit edition of Lync Server 2010 is not available with this release. The exception is the Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Planning Tool, which is available in a 32-bit edition.
