Failed at first hurdle - Site actions menu has no 'Create' option.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteMake sure you have appropriate rights to create the survey on the SharePoint site.
one more thing by which you can check regarding the 'create' option:
-open the shrepoint site i.e. home page
-in the left hand side i.e. left navigation, you can see the list of created list and libraries
-on the top of this, you will see 'view all site content'
-please click on that
-you will be re-directed to the page where you will see the 'create' option on the top of the page
alternative to the above step: http://sitename/_layouts/viewlsts.aspx
please check and let me know in case of any issues, thanks
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I managed to get to the Create/tracking menu from the generic URL you posted, but there was still no survey. After typing 'survey' into the search box, I managed to find it and get one started. I think not all installations of SharePoint 2010 are created equal.

I have found your site to be very helpful! Thanks. I am having an issue with having users that are taking a survey being able to adjust the settings and view all responses...how can I limit their access to just completing the survey?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
First of all- Thank you very much for your appreciation.
ReplyDeleteThe minimum permissions that are required to fill the survey is contribute i.e. member rights so you need to make sure that the users who are participating in the survey are belongs to your site members group i.e. they should have contribute permissions
Also, you can do one thing which we named as "permission filtering/management". Survey is a list so its quite obvious that you can manage the permissions on it. If your site consist of long list of groups created then you can break the inheritance at the list level and keep only that group who has contribute permissions. By doing this activity, one thing will be sure that only specific groups/ users are participating in the survey.
The most important thing is advanced settings for the survey list. The advanced settings page allows you to configure who can see what responses and what they can edit. The advanced settings is broadly classified in two types: 1) READ Access and 2) EDIT Access
so READ access: anybody can read but in terms of EDIT access:Only thier own
Apart from survey, you can also enable "Auditing" on your site so that you can keep a track on which users are modifying the survey or trying to edit the other parts of the site.
You can refer the following link to get the complete overview regarding the same: http://sharepointknowledgebase.blogspot.com/2010/09/sharepoint2010-site-collection-auditing.html
If you have any queries/questions regarding the mentioned info then please let me know... I would be more than HAPPY 2 HELP U as well as RESOLVES your issues, Thanks for your patience..

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI created some nice surveys and all works fine. Now I like to linke a MS Access 2010 database to these SharePoint surveys. Unfortunatelly they are not available ... only the document libaries can be linked.
Please could you tell me what I miss?
Thanks in advance
FYI-Databases are blocked in sharepoint.
DeleteI don't think that it is possible out of box for sp2010 surveys but will try to repro the issue at my end and let you know the results
POSSIBLE WITH SP CUSTOM LIST:
you can import it in sharepoint custom list without any problems: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access-help/import-from-or-link-to-a-sharepoint-list-HA001230313.aspx
please let me know in case of any further queries, thank you
I have seen the survey options and found so good. Thanks Amol..

ReplyDeleteMaking Survey
Hi i have a problem when i go and respond to the survey second time. below is my error details. please help me.
ReplyDeleteServer Error in '/' Application.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are not allowed to respond again to this survey.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: You are not allowed to respond again to this survey.
Source Error:
An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.
You may normally encounter an error “You are not allowed to respond again to this survey” when trying to respond to this survey.
ReplyDeleteThis may be because the survey is set(while creating the survey) to allow single response from a user. You can change this to allow multiple responses by going to
Settings of the survey -> Title, description and navigation and set Allow multiple responses in survey options to Yes.
Hi Amol,
DeleteI am getting same error as ramanjulu "Server Error in '/' Application" on one server and on other server I am getting proper error page. How do I fix this server error? I do not wish to allow multiple answer but they should get custom error page.
Thank you in advance.
Hi Amol,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your site full of great free information. Interesting to see the different posts and challenges others have. One thing I have learned about SP is that you have to have a really in depth knowledge about exactly what edition and version of sharepoint you have installed along with additional bells and whistles (excel services, report services, etc) AND versions of MS Office the clients are using. It has become a nightmare explaining to end users what we can and cannot do "out of the box".
Today I have a question. I am building a simple rate survey (1 - 5) and would like to know is there a way to have sharepoint "count" the answers. In other words...sum up the 1's, the 2's, the 3's, the 4's, the 5's so that we can get a total score? I haven't found this sort of capability so far. Any ideas?
It is difficult in survey but it might be possible if we implement the same in a custom list.
ReplyDeletewe create a questions in survey, just like that we can create columns in custom list as per the requirements we have.
now the questions remains on 'sums/counting', so we can create a calculated column here to sum/count the "1's, 2's etc....
let me know what you thinks, Thanks for your patience.
Hi amol
ReplyDeletei need you help
i m new in sharepoint2010 .

now i want to show my survey question in home page like other survey
and then user can fill all the Answer then i want to a show a msg for thank you.

Its very easy...
DeleteSurvey is one of the list available in SP2010. All lists and Libraries are ultimately webparts so go ahead and add your survey list on the home page of the site and that's it..you are done!
let me know in case of any queries, Thank you
Hi Amol,
ReplyDeleteI am new to sharepoint. Currently i have got a reuirement to build quiz in sharepoint 2013. There will be set of questions and user has to answer the question and should get his score based on the correct answers.
How can we aachieve it in simple way.( Questions will be changed for every 15 days manually) If we can achieve this through lists it would be great if you provide the entire detail on this.
Thanks in advance,
Preethi
yes, you can use the survey as custom list for this requirement.
DeleteHi Amol,
ReplyDeleteI am having 2 doubts:
1) My client take survey after every 6 months. So after every 6 months questions get change.
then how to manage multiple survey.
2) And i want one report from that i will get user name, who not respond to that particular survey.
I can give you two options:
ReplyDelete1- maintain a single survey list and create multiple views with respect to differ questions.
2- Survey list is always a tricky option, if you create a custom list in a survey manner which is quite simple to proceed and collect the date also.
let me know your thoughts on this. thanks for your patience.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI have a mystery column when creating the survey 'Order' I cannot find any way of getting this off. Would appreciate any help.

There are so many ways by which you can delete this column or remove it from the survey.

- by means of SPD
pls let me know in case of any queries, thank you
i will create a survey i wanna make sure it will be displayed in my portal and how?

here are the steps:
-open your site
-site actions
-edit page
-add a webpart
-list and libraries
-select the survey list that you have created
-click ok
-it will be displayed on your portal without any issues
in case of any queries with respect to the above mentioned information then please let me know, Thanks for your patience.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/richin/archive/2010/10/27/branching-logic-in-sharepoint-2010-surveys.aspx
Is it possible to display the list of survey responses in a separate web part that would allow the user to sort and modify. I want the survey to act as a "task", so each time someone responds to a survey, it shows up in a list for someone to take action and then "complete".
ReplyDeleteYou can display the survey list as a webpart so that no need to go to the actual list and see the responses.
Deletesecond thing, take the export of the survey list and display it in a excel web access webpart.
let me know in case of any queries, thank you.

DeleteCan you help me in creating a survey report of all users?
ReplyDeleteYes sure, just let me know where you stuck presently? I mean what kind of survey is this? How many columns you have created up till now? if you can describe your query in detail then that would be good for me to explain in detail also.

How to display all the questions of a survey in a single page and provide feedback button for each question?
ReplyDeleteHi Amol,
ReplyDeleteI have set the Multiple responses to Yes as I want the same Survey to be by the users quarterly.
I have added a ListItem event receiver (ItemAdding) which checks whether user already responded and displays the custom message.
The problem is that this message is coming after the Form opens while clicking on the Finish button.I want the message to come as soon as Respond to Survey button is clicked.
Thanks
