This
is a very common issue in which the SharePoint site prompts for credentials
i.e. username and password. By default, SharePoint sites should automatically
log you in via your existing Windows credentials without ever asking any
identity.
Yesterday,
one of my user faced the same problem n would like to share the resolution with
all of u.
Internet
Explorer Security Settings: How to add your SharePoint site in trusted file
location zone
Open
the Internet Explorer/Browser
1.
Tools
2.
Internet
Options
3.
Select
Security Tab
4.
Sites
Button
5.
Enter
the website name (URL) in Add this website to the zone.
6.
If
your SharePoint site is NOT using SSL, make sure you uncheck the box require
server verification (https :) for all sites in this zone prior to adding it.
7.
Click
Ok once and you will be redirected to following window:
8.
Click
on Custom Level Tab now
Note: If you are getting the above tab greyed out then it means
that you don’t have admin rights on your machine.
9.
Scrolls
towards the bottom and select the option that says
"AUTOMATIC LOGON WITH CURRENT USERNAME
AND PASSWORD"
Click OK Everything
Open your SharePoint site in a new browser and check the results
The
above steps will resolves your login prompts issue and you should be able to
access the SharePoint without any problems!!!

ReplyDeleteI have a different kind of issue where the user gets prompted while checking out any document. Any ideas as to why this is happening. We are using Windows 7, and SP 2010. NTLM authentication.
-Is this happening with one one user or with all site users ?

-What kind of permissions he has ?
-Does that document library has site inherited permissions or unique permissions ?
-Is this machine specific ? Does that user tried from any other machine ?

ReplyDeleteThought this would be a better place to ask you a question. I have this problem with only 1 user where when we do "edit in Excel", it opens the document just fine. Now, on the document, there is a "check out" button. Hitting that button asks for credentials. Is this by design or can we get rid of it.

ReplyDeleteIt has been resolved. The permissions on the doc lib was the culprit, It was inheriting from parent and he didnt had it there, which was strange. Now i am trying to find who removed his permissions from the root site.
its great that the issue is resolved. go for the audit reports to check who hs done this. those reports will help you to find that info. keep me posted. thank you

lets try to isolate the problem one by one:
ReplyDeleteI hope you have already added the site in the trusted zone. which OS and IE you are using?
1. Is this prompt occurs while accessing the home page i.e. default.aspx? or while accessing any office document ?
2. when this prompt occurs then how many office documents are open on your desktop ?
3. if you go to your sharepoint shared drives then is there any site in which you dont have a access. try to remove all the shared drives from your machine and then check the results
4. is this machine specific? i mean to say-if you try to access the same site by some other desktop/computer then you face the same problem ?
5. If you try to access the same site in Mozilla or google chrome then also you face the same problem ?
6. Is there any site has been added to your outlook on which you dont have access ?

When i pass my credentials to SP 2010 Site, The credentials are accepted but in ribbon it is shown as "System". The credentials I am using is an administrator of the Site. i have added this user in Web application user policy with full rights but no luck (Account operates as system is remain unchecked). though it is logged as System, this user has all privileges. why site is not showing exact logged user in the ribbon?
ReplyDeleteThis problem is only to this user, i have another user who has only read access. If i pass the credentials, it is showing fine in logged user space.
Does that account used for SharePoint installation?
DeleteWhen SharePoint creates/extends web apps, the specified app pool account is set as SHAREPOINT\System. Each and every time you try to login with that account not only will you appear as SHAREPOINT\System but you will also come into lots of "Unexpected Error" messages. Thats why it is recommended that the account is not used by end users. Now if you replace the app pool identity after you created the web application and you are lucky enough that the new account has access to the content database, the new account is not renamed to SHAREPOINT\System. SHAREPOINT\System is only the app pool account when you first created the web application.
DeleteThe best practise as far as I'm concerned is to keep as much separation between the different accounts as possible only granting the necessary privileges to each account. I always install sharepoint with a separate user (ie. domain\spsetup) and run the application pool also on a separate user.

Unfortunately, the System Account is set at the time of creation for the web application used by SharePoint. Even if you change the identity the app pool uses, the SHAREPOINT\System account will still be associated with the account used when the web app was created.
DeleteSo the answer to your question is: you cannot change the system account. The only way to accomplish what you want is to create a new web application (using a separate account that you want to be the SHAREPOINT\System account) and recreate/migrate your existing site over.
