The Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Planning Tool asks you a series of questions about your organization and the features that you are interested in. The planning tool will then use your answers to recommend a topology based on the tested Microsoft Lync Server 2010 user model.

Lync Server 2010 offers instant messaging (IM), presence, conferencing, and telephony solutions that can support enterprise-level collaboration requirements.

Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool
Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool integrates a range of logging and tracing functionality. It facilitates troubleshooting by capturing logging and tracing information from the product while the product is running. Logging Tool is installed with the Lync Server administrative tools. You can use Logging Tool to run debug sessions on any Lync Server server role.

To start Lync Server 2010 Logging Tool
Do one of the following:
  • Open a command prompt (either Command Prompt, Windows PowerShell, or Lync Server Management Shell). Navigate to the folder where OCSLogger.exe is installed (by default, %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\Tracing), type OCSLogger.exe, and then pressEnter.
  • On the Start menu, open the Run dialog box. Type the full path and file name, by default %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Lync Server 2010\Tracing\OCSLogger.exe) and then click OK.
  • On the Start menu, click inside the Search box. Type OCSLogger.exe and then press Enter.

Lync Server 2010 System Requirements


As per Microsoft documentation, All servers running Microsoft Lync Server 2010 communications software must meet certain minimum system requirements. System requirements for Lync Server 2010 include the server hardware, the operating system to be installed on each server, and related software requirements, such as the Windows updates and other software that must be installed on the servers.

Note: Lync Server 2010 is available only in a 64-bit edition, which requires 64-bit hardware and a 64-bit edition of Windows Server. A 32-bit edition of Lync Server 2010 is not available with this release. The exception is the Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Planning Tool, which is available in a 32-bit edition.
