In this article, I will describe the issue that I faced while working on Per-Location View options and troubleshooting steps that I have taken to resolve.
Brief details:
You can configure which views are available for specific locations in the site hierarchy. The locations in a site hierarchy for which you can configure the availability of views are:
· Lists
· Libraries
· Folders for lists and libraries.
How to reproduce the issue?
I have created a site by using blank template. Blank site template does not have any default list/libraries created and we can design it as per our project requirements. So afterwards I have created a custom list and tried to configure the per location view settings but here is the mystery begins...As I am not able to see that option under list settings.
How to resolve this issue?
· Open the sharepoint site in which you are facing the issue
· Site actions
· Site settings-site actions (don’t be confused with this repeated word)
· Manage site features
· Activate this feature Metadata Navigation and Filtering
· Go back to the list settings now and check the results JJ
You can see that option is there now and I can see your smiling face J
Important guidelines about this ‘Location per View’ option
1) You cannot use personal views for per-location views
2) To configure per-location view settings you must have at least the permissions obtained by being added to the default Designer security group for the site that the list or library is in.

I have an issue: In a particular folder, I want the files to be sorted by how recently modified they are. So I create a view which sorts by modified called "Recent". I go the the per-location view and set it "Recent" as the default view for the location.
ReplyDeleteBut whenever I navigate to the folder, by default it still shows the "All documents" view, not "Recent". I even tried to remove the "All documents" view from the per-location view settings. It still defaults to "All documents"
see if you have created a new view then you can set that view as default one as per your requirements, when you go to that library- library settings- last section on that page i.e. views where you can see all the views. click on it and set as default. that's it.
Deleteif it is not reflecting then you need to check the navigation. let me know your thoughts on this...
If I set it as the default view for the whole library (as you suggested), then there is no point of "per-location view".
DeleteLooks like this is a known issue. If I navigate to the same folder with 'Tree View' as suggested by MSFT help (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2806007) it works like I want it to. But I wonder why we can't make it work when I navigate to the folder the conventional way.
it seems that this is a known issue. I have referred some technet as well as msdn articles with respect to the same and everybody concludes that this is a product behavior only... may be any upcoming patch might fix this issue. but as of now, its a known issue with no results....
