There are several ways to move
documents between SharePoint document libraries and one of the simplest ways to
do this is to use the explorer view.
Here's a step by step reference
on how to use the explorer view feature to migrate documents between document
libraries.
Open
the source and destination document libraries in two separate Internet Explorer
windows.
Now
select the explorer view
Now copy the source file by
simply right clicking the mouse and selecting copy, then paste the file in the
destination document library. It's important to remember that when you move
documents between document libraries you lose the document version history.
Some
users may experience an annoying popup when copying and pasting.
The way to turn this off is to
make a change to the client's Internet Explorer:
-Open Internet Explorer
-Click "Tools", then
"Internet Options"
-Select the
"Security" tab
-Choose the appropriate zone
-Click the "Custom
level" button
-Select "Enable" for
the "launching programs and files in the IFRAME" option
-Click the "OK"
button
-Click "Yes" when
prompted to change the settings
-click the "OK"
button
-Restart IE.
If you have any
queries/questions regarding the above mentioned information then please let me
know.
I would be more than happy to
help you as well as resolves your issues, Thank you
Hey Amol,
ReplyDeleteHave you ever experienced an issue where after uploading files using explorer view (copy pasting), other users of the website can't see the file in the library (they get a 404 if provided with a link)
They can however view folders created using explorer view.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Riju
I had exp this issue long time back..At that time, what excately happened: one of the user copied the entire files structure (incldes docments as well as folders) from his machine and paste into a document library by means of explorer view..Every user was getting the same error message as you mentioned.. while troubleshooting, we found out that all documents were checked out to that user.. so you can check this out in yor env !! also, check the document library settings as it is being inheriting permissions from parents or having unique permissions !!
ReplyDeleteIf it is inherited using unique permissions then just for the testing purpose, add one of the user who is facing the problem and check the results..........
Please let me know if you have doubts or queries regarding the above procedure !!!!!!!
Hey Amol,
ReplyDeleteThanks a bunch! That confirmed my theory. I thought that the files must be checked out for this to be happening.
Yesterday I started DIRECTLY copying files from the explorer view in SP 2003 to explorer view of SP 2007. Since The files were never copied to my machine, they were not checked out and were visible for viewing in the library.
Regards,
Riju

DeleteHi Amol,
ReplyDeleteI did not knew where to post question for Workflows..I like you blog a lot.I have also questioned you earlier for some different issues.
My question is : A site has been migrated to a different web application and has not been removed from the previous web application but in read only mode.
1. User is still receiving Workflow email from the previous webapplication site like "Task due by..."
2. I have deleted the workflow from the site still no go..User is still receiving email notifications.
Any help would be appreciated.
Hello Sir,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, Thanks for your kind appreciation as you like my blog.
Workflow issue:-
I worked on this issue before six months, same conditions were there but slight changes. Users were receiving lots of emails and they got frustrated by this.
As you mentioned, the site has been migrated to new web application. When we migrate any site to another then workflows wont transfer/migrate.
Workflows are still in active state and that why, the workflow timer job is sending emails.
If you wants to check the active workflows for each document library/list then please refer this url: http://sharepointserver/Docs/Lists/Workflow%20History
this will reflect you workflow history and then take appropriate action for the DL in which the users are getting emails.
Please let me know in case of any issues,Thanks !!
Hi Amol ,
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well.
My question is : we have restored a meeting workspace from one site collection to another and experience couple of issues while configuring it as per destination site.
1. Unable to edit/delete "Go to Event" link on the top, which is still pointing to the source site collection.
2. unable to link the newly restored meeting workspace with outlook while creating a new meeting.
Hello,
ReplyDelete1. Modify the links by means of navigation n that will resolves the first issue.
2. Could you please send me the error message regardinhg the same so that i can check it out ??
-is this the same workspace which is restored from previous site collection ??
-if you create a new meeting workspace and try to sync with the outlook then what is the result ??
Thanks for your patience...
Thanks Amol for your response,
ReplyDelete1. In the navigation link,I do not see the link for "Go to Events" in that where I can change.
2. The Error is "The meeting workspace already exist at the location you specified.Specify a different location"
Please follow these steps:
ReplyDeleteMethod-1:
1. Open the specific meeting workspace site
2. site actions
3. site settings
4.on the site settings page, please look for navigation
5. it will specify the complete hirarchy for your home page Global navigation as well as left navigation i.e. quick launch.
6. Modify the links and click Ok.
Method-2:
1. Open the same site in sharepoint designer
2. it will specify the same navigation in SPD also.
3. The navigation which is redirecting wrong path, Right Click-properties
4. Please correct the URL and click ok
5. Save n Exit SPD
Please let me know in case of any issues, Thanks for your patience...
I used the Explorer View to move documents on my company's SharePoint site. Now I am listed as the creator. Is there any way to show the original creator?
ReplyDeleteYes-Document library has that option.
ReplyDeletewhat you have to do is:
-open that specific document library
-Right hand side-dropdown
-modify this view
-select important 4 options to differentiate as follows: modified, modified by, created, created by
thats it.. as soon as you will upload the documents then you will see the difference.
please let me know in case of any further queries/questions. thank you
would like to appreciate the descriptive information you have provided!! This info helps me a lot as i have recently started learning sharepoint....Thank you once again...
