Issue:

Today, I got a request from one of the client to have his Meeting workspace moved to another site.

I was wondering if the MW can be moved as of the sub-sites via Import and export.

While Googling I came across some of the limitations of MW described by Mr. Michael Nemtsev, in which he talks about that MW can’t be saved as template as of sub-sites to migrate to different sites.

Solution:

Before I say to client that this is I further struggled to find a solution, then I came across a third party tool which support or let you move/migrate the MW from between sites: MetaVis SharePoint Migration Software Tools

This now support copying meeting workspaces.  Meeting workspaces with/without recurring or non-recurring events can now be migrated between SharePoint locations.  Of course, we also support the migration of the associated content within the meeting workspace: Agendas, Attendees, Document Libraries, and Objectives.

To copy a meeting workspace between SharePoint locations, simply connect to your source and target locations.  Copy the meeting workspace site from source to target using windows explorer functions like cut & paste or drag & drop.

I tried using with my test sites and it was successful.

Caution:

Be sure of the source site and destination site before you plan to move items across.

Suggested is to have your client use this tool from his client machine, because what see from the client side in his MW, those items would not be available to you.

Make sure you/client do have admin right to install this software.

Benefits:

You can have items moved of your meeting workspace without any SharePoint Admin privilege.
This software doesn’t require SharePoint Server installation.

You can have multiple options to play/manage your SharePoint Sites such as Architect, Information Manager, Migrator, Change Manager, Security Manager, file manager, Policy folder and manage backups.

Cannot find new versions of the Fabulous 40 application templates

Microsoft is not releasing new versions of these templates for SharePoint 2010 Products. Also, .stp  files are deprecated and can't be used to create new sites when you upgrade to SharePoint Server 2010 or SharePoint Foundation 2010.

So, what do you do when you want to upgrade?

Sites based on these templates should upgrade, but you'll want to try out your upgrade in a test environment before you upgrade your production environment so that you can catch any potential issues.

.Stp files are not working after upgrade

Unfortunately, SharePoint 2007 site templates (.stp) can't be used as in SharePoint 2010. Hmm... Then what to do with the custom SharePoint 2007 Site templates? Can't I use them in SharePoint 2010? well

Solution packages (.wsp files) are the supported method for creating sites that are based on a template in SharePoint Server 2010. You can convert an .stp file to a .wsp file to continue to use the template after upgrade.
